This year – 2008 – I travelled to the U.K. and Europe.  One of my favourite places  was the Victoria & Albert Museum.  The textile collection is so accessible and I could have spent many, many more hours there.  I just touched the surface of what is available.  I have been once before and a highlight of both my trips were the beautiful Devonshire  Hunting Tapestries.  They fill a very large room, floor to very high ceiling. One could just sit and study the imagery for hours.

I also travelled to Paris where I visited the Musee National du Moyen Age.  This wonderful museum houses the collection of six tapestries called “The Lady and the Unicorn”.  The tapestries depict the 5 senses of taste, sight, smell, touch, hearing and the sixth is called “To my only Desire”.  But this museum has more than just those famous tapestries.  Every room has tapestries and examples of fine textile work.  This is a closeup of one of the beautiful tapestries.  Wonderful web-site with photos and descriptions of a lot of the collections.
