Master Weaver

January 22, 2009

What does it mean? For me I think that I have little bits of knowledge about a lot of weaves and a little more about one thing (the in-depth-study).  It doesn’t mean one is perfect and doesn’t make mistakes or is excellent at everything, but that they have taken the time to study the basics of weaving.   The Canadian Guild of Weavers tests are  very good at taking one through all of the basic weave structures and making sure one has the ability to weave very well.  Other tests one can do are through the Ontario Weaver’s Guild and the Handweavers Guild of America.    The tests are a wonderful way to begin a study of weaving because there is a format to follow in a logical progression from the most basic weaves.   But it is not an ending when one achieves the designation of Master Weaver.  From there one must continue  because there is so much more to learn and as I continue to weave I find I have so much more to explore.
