Hemstitching

February 22, 2009

When I began weaving I was told that I must hemstitch all my weaving including samples!  So I did.  This is one of a few pieces experimenting with crackle weave and I hemstitched between each sample style!   The hems do look nice though I don’t spend the time doing that anymore!   The samples are silk, the warp is #6, uneven spun silk from the Silk Tree.  The weft is even spun 20/2 and 30/2 for the tabby.

Crackle woven as overshot.  I didn’t “square”  the blocks in this sample so it has a squashed appearance.   One can see  how the tabby order and the number of picks affect the appearance of the blocks.  Some blocks appear with doubled threads all nice and tidy, others seem to have one separate.   Each side is different.
