The V & A

April 27, 2009

If you are a textile enthusiast and you visit London you will not want to miss the V & A  and make sure you allow yourself a lot of time!     I have mentioned the Devonshire Hunting Tapestries in a previous post and the museum has many other permanent textile and costume galleries.

There is a Textile Study room with banks of drawers and sliding display cases all set out so one can take the glass enclosed slider out to a large table and study the pieces.  There are  hundreds and hundreds of textile fragments and examples.

The special exhibit the last time I was there had lots of textiles including the most amazing carpet. For protection it was only subtley  lit for 10 min. every half hour.
