Linen Finger-tip towel

May 19, 2009

I found this lovely finger-tip towel at a garage (boot)  sale and snapped it up instantly!    I could see it was an example of some very fine handweaving.

It is all linen with a 2 ply warp, singles weft and doubled 2 ply in blue for the pattern. I think it was sett at about 32 epi and woven at about 38 ppi. The pattern is a Wheel & Rose, Young Lover’s Knot. There is a twist in the centre row between the delicate hemstiching.

It looks as though it was never used. So sad in one way – lucky for me though.

So nice that you were able to rescue it and give it a loving home!

What a wonderful find – who ever did the weaving did a lovely job balancing warp and weft to achieve such great circles. I’m impressed.
