Decorative Cow Bell?

October 20, 2010

A garage sale find.  The seller said it had belonged to her grandmother and had come from Switzerland (or was it Sweden?), and they thought it was a decorative cow bell.  But she wasn’t really sure about it.     With the fringe it is about 22″ long.   There are two of the large bells missing, but it was only .50cents.

The back with messy stitching holding the yarn balls in place.

It looks like it was cut from a larger piece with rather rough overstitching covering the cuts.

And same end from the front.  It looks like knotted pile, but is so dense it is difficult to tell what sort of knot.

That’s a great find and even better at that price. How fortunate it found a home with you since it was clearly in the way of its past owner.
