Tracking

December 14, 2010

This is 6/2 naturally coloured  cotton sett at 16epi.    It is woven in a turned Atwater Bronson Lace pattern from a Weaver’s book of 8shaft patterns.  (my notes say page 185 #617)   I had woven 6/2 cotton before using a lace structure , but it didn’t track.  I think this pattern with the large areas of lace contributed to the overall fabric being looser and the threads could move around more causing the tracking.  The fabric is nice and soft  and I like the tracking.  This sample is lightly pressed so the tracking is less noticeable than before pressing.

As I was waiting for my photos to upload I was reading  WeaveTech messages and up came a post on this same subject by another weaver!  Here is Syne Mitchell’s blogpost with examples of tracking.  Strange!

Oh how pretty. I have liked tracking in a number of my woven pieces. It almost looks like a planned part of the pattern.
How’s that old loom coming along?

progress is slow on the loom, lots of pieces missing. Hopefully it will be functional in the new year and I can get photos.

I’m catching up on blogs….and everything else now that it’s the New Year!

I have a stack of towels that I think are from this same threading in the pattern book. I used 8/2 cotton at 18 epi and got tracking.

Did you see how Sharon Alderman commented on Syne’s article with her method of preventing tracking? I’ve already decided I’m doing a second run of my towels, and next time I might experiment with her method to see if it does indeed work for my yarn and sett. (It’s a yarn I use often so it would be interesting to see if it really is possible for it not to track. Not that I doubt Sharon, but I just need to see it with my own eyes….I’m such an engineer sometimes!)

Anyway, sooner or later I’ll get more caught up actually blogging about my projects and you’ll see our twin towels!! (Mine are different colors though!)

    Phew…..sorry for the giant comment!
