Weaving Sea Birds

March 29, 2011

I think Lavernne of BackStrap Weaving referred to this design as Pre-Columbian Sea Birds.   I can see a strong resemblance to pelicans, especially after watching a PBS program about Australian Pelicans.  I have been enjoying charting various configurations of the sea-birds based on the charts in Laverne’s  ebook and weaving photographs as well as other images I  find.

Oh was it this past Sunday’s Nature? I missed it and had wanted to watch it.
    Your bands look beautiful.

I am not sure which program it was! It was excellent though and will no doubt be on again or available online.

What wonderful bands you are creating! I like the contrasting colors and the strong definition of the birds. Great photography-especially the first one (my favorite.)

I always thought that figure was a pelican. They are such interesting birds! Big and obvious too. Lovely weaving!

    Very cool!!

I like that they remind you of pelicans….I have pelican photos just waiting for me to regain some blogging mojo. I did post today, so maybe that will be the start of something!

I love your sea birds – how colorful they are. We watched that show about the Australian pelicans on our public TV station – it was fascinating.

I was just talking with a friend about spinning cotton – It looks like a lengthy process since the singles are so fine. You have much more patience that I’d have, that’s for sure. 🙂 T.
