I haven’t seen this plant for years and spotted this clump while on a walk a few days ago through Ruckle Provincial Park

That’s interesting! It almost reminds me of a mushroom. I don’t think we have this plant in Norway. We do have some hemi-parasitic plants, living on the roots of shrubs. They are green, but turn black when collected and put into a vase.

these were near cedar as well, but I have seen them in various places.

Welcome back, Evelyn! I know that one as Indian pipe. So weird with its ghostly look somewhere between a flower and a mushroom.
